R&D institute since 1929 and continuously active since 1949, having as core-competence in Romania the capability to perform the entire drug development, from bio/chemical synthesis/ extraction of the active ingredient until the final formulated medicine, including the pre-(non)clinical pharmacology studies. This competence is supported by its unique structure in the country, bringing together preparative departments: biotechnologies (microbial and extractive), chemical synthesis and pharmaceutical technology, as well as characterization departments: analytical and pharmacology (GLP and ISO certified), a technology transfer center with a pilot plant.
ICCF could provide new technologies, products know-how and research services to pharmaceutical and related industries. The R&D activity has been extended from drug research to related or other fields requiring similar expertise: microbial biomaterials as drug carriers ( including nanopharmaceuticals) and with other biomedical and technical applications, food supplements, plant biofertilizers and biostimulants, biofuels.
Working in health improvement, with renewable raw materials and using environmental friendly technologies (biotechnologies, green/clean chemistry), the institute contributes to a knowledge based, sustainable increase of pharmaceutical, food, biotechnology or chemical companies as well as to the Romanian participation to the scientific and technology progress.

Technologies and know-how regarding natural products:
– Fermentation biomaterials:
Micro-pilot technologies for polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) production, using:
Cupriavidus necator strain for PHB biosynthesis at a level of 90% of dry cell weight, 8 g/L of fermentation medium, 85-90 post-biosynthesis recovery yield ;
Pseudomonas spp. strain for mcl-PHA (mainly PHO) biosynthesis at a level of 55% of dry cell weight, 2,6 g/L of fermentation medium, and 85% post-biosynthesis recovery yield.
Technologies for polysaccharide production:
Micro-pilot technology of bacterial cellulose using Acetobacter xylinum (RO patent, 5g/L)
Pilot technology of pullulan using an own mutant of Aureobasidium pullulans (RO patent)– fermentation: 50g/L, productivity 0.75g/Lh (batch), 100g/L, productivity 1g/Lh; substrate conversion 60%; down stream processing yield (food/pharmaceutical grade)50%;
– Plant extraction drugs/food supplements:
Pilot technologies (10, 9 RO patented)for antimicrobial, antiviral, antispasmodic, hemostatic, anti-ageing, anti-obesity, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, sedative therapy, a veterinary product against bovine endometritis.

INCDCF-ICCF is interested to identify partners, to create partnerships and to collaborate within European and international RDI and technological projects in the following areas:
– microbial biotechnology, for obtaining bioactive products and biomaterials, based on developing bio-processes with highly producing microorganisms and applying modern bio-engineering methods;
scaling up to higher TRL levels, technology optimization, applications development;
– introduction of modern extraction and purification techniques in plant extraction: fluidized bed, supercritical fluid, microwave systems; modern in-vitro pharmacology; – white chemistry based on biocatalysts and unconventional procedures and products for sustainable development and pollution reduction;
– technology transfer to interested companies.
